The future of the composites industry looks bright for Utah as government and industry demand continues to grow. Utah companies have always been highly innovative in their view of composites. Tremendous breakthroughs in the advanced composites industry have and continue to occur here. Both companies and higher educational institutions are dedicated to the growth and development of this industry.
Utah Construction Jobs
Construction is the building or assembly of any structure or facility. In general, construction is organized or classified into three groups: building (residential, commercial and industrial); heavy and civil engineering (utilities, subdivision preparation, and highway, street and bridge); and special trades (building foundation, framing, masonry, glass, roofing, siding, electrical, HVAC, and finishing trades).
As stated in the Deseret News, “Utah's economy is the single strongest state economy in the nation, according to one Utah economist. And the single strongest sector within that economy is construction.
It's growing so fast that many construction companies say they can't hire fast enough to staff the jobs they've got on the docket. It's growing so fast that, according to some general contractors, projects are being delayed or redesigned to suit the available labor pool.
It's growing fast, and though the pace may slow to a trot instead of a frothing gallop, industry watchers say Utah's construction market will continue to see healthy growth for years, perhaps decades.
Utah Healthcare Jobs
As defined by the North American Industrial Classification System, Healthcare industry includes the offices of healthcare professionals such as physicians, dentists, chiropractors, optometrists, etc. The industry also encompasses outpatient care centers such as clinics, family planning centers, outpatient mental health centers, etc.
Medical/Dental laboratories, home health care, ambulances, and blood banks are also included under the healthcare classification. Finally hospitals of all sorts along with residential care facilities are found under the healthcare industry umbrella.
Both Utah and U.S. projections show healthcare occupations among the fastest growing occupations of the next decade. An aging Baby Boom population will continue to put pressure on the services of the healthcare industry. Professional and technical health care occupations are in high demand and provide good wages.
Utah Energy Jobs
Like stars shimmering in the night sky, the twinkling lights of cities throughout the West are made possible, in part, by Utah’s energy industries. Below ground, the state’s large reserves of coal and gas—and today to a lesser extent, oil—provide the raw fuel stocks to fire power plants, warm homes, power vehicles, and light cities. To these ends, an array of firms, from those that exploit the raw resources to the companies that transmit energy and all the firms in between, operate in Utah.
From drilling, extraction, and refining, oil and gas has in the last two years provided roughly two-thirds of all new energy-related jobs. After shaking off a rather uninspired performance at the beginning of the decade, Utah’s energy cluster has shown remarkable strength in the past two years. Going forward, the oil and gas subgroup of industries will likely continue in their role as the job growth driver of the cluster. ~ Michael Hanni, Economist
Utah Engineering Jobs
Engineers apply the principles of science and mathematics to develop economical solutions to technical problems. Their work is the link between scientific discoveries and the commercial applications that meet societal and consumer needs.
Many engineers design and develop new products. In addition to design and development, many engineers work in testing, production, or maintenance. These engineers supervise production in factories, determine the causes of component failure, and test manufactured products to maintain quality. They also estimate the time and cost to complete projects. Supervisory engineers are responsible for major components or entire projects. Employment of engineers is expected to grow about as fast as the average for all occupations over the next decade, but growth will vary by specialty. Environmental engineers should experience the fastest growth, while civil engineers should see the largest employment increase. Overall job opportunities in engineering are expected to be good. ~ taken from the US Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Utah Automotive Jobs
The Automotive industry includes the sale, maintenance, and repair of new and used cars, trucks, buses and other motorized vehicles, along with the associated parts suppliers, manufacturers, and retailers. In addition, truck transportation; supplying materials and finished goods to the economy is part of this industry. A unifying characteristic of businesses in the automotive industry is that they employ highly skilled technicians with specialized skills to diagnose, maintain, and repair mechanical and electrical systems for motorized vehicles of all types.
As the Utah economy revived in recent years, the growth in automotive employment has lagged overall employment increases in Utah. Twenty-eight of Utah's 29 counties have significant numbers of automotive related jobs. Dealerships of new and used cars and trucks, parts stores, along with repair/maintenance shops comprise 40 percent of the industry. Truck transportation (28 percent of automotive jobs) is largely responsible for delivering materials to industry and finished products. Many automotive jobs are high-tech and challenging as well as rewarding. Highly skilled technicians work in modern, clean, air-conditioned and safe environments.
